September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

More than 15,000 kids and teens in the U.S. are diagnosed with cancer each year. Among children and adolescents the most common types of cancer are leukemias, brain and central nervous system tumors, and lymphomas.

Blood Donors Help Kids Kick Cancer

Cancer and cancer treatments can put patients at risk for low red blood cell and platelet counts when their bodies cannot make enough blood cells.

Childhood cancer patients may need blood products regularly during chemo, radiation, surgeries or treatments – sometimes daily.

Blood and platelet transfusions can enable patients to receive the critical treatments needed to fight and survive cancer.
